HLR and MNP are features that help you validate mobile numbers and ensure accurate message and call routing. 
Below is a brief explanation of each feature, along with the possible statuses and report fields you may encounter. 

HLR is a feature that allows you to verify mobile numbers to ensure they are valid and active. You can refer to the following articles for more details about this feature:

MNP is a feature that determines which operator currently owns a number, ensuring correct SMS and call routing. 

Status Meanings

  • Pending: The process is ongoing. Delays may occur due to network congestion or other network-related issues.

  • Active: The number is valid, active, and ready to receive messages.

  • Absent: The Absent Subscriber status is explained in detail in this article:  Absent Subscriber

  • Unknown: The lookup request status is unknown due to an unknown or invalid subscriber.

  • Failed: The network does not accept HLR checks.

  • Invalid: Invalid numbers are explained in this article:  Invalid Numbers

  • Rejected: Lookup failed due to an internal error.


CSV Report Fields

In the CSV file, in addition to the HLR or MNP status, you will also find the following fields:

  • Lookup Type: Indicates whether the request is for HLR or MNP.

  • MCC: Mobile Country Code, a unique code assigned to each country (e.g., Portugal is 268).

  • a2 Code: ISO country code (e.g., Portugal is PT).

  • Network Name: The name of the network in that country.

  • Network MNC: Mobile Network Code, a unique code assigned to each network (e.g., Vodafone in Portugal is 001).

  • Ported: Indicates whether the number has been ported to another network.

  • Ported Network: The name of the network to which the number was ported (e.g., a number originally with Vodafone may be ported to NOS).

  • Ported Network MNC: The Mobile Network Code of the network the number was ported to (e.g., NOS is 003).

  • Roaming: Indicates whether the number is currently roaming.

  • Roaming MCC: The Mobile Country Code of the country the number is roaming in.

  • Roaming MNC: The Mobile Network Code of the network the number is connected to while roaming.

  • Roaming a2 Code: ISO country code of the roaming country.

  • Roaming Network: The name of the network the number is roaming on.

  • Phone Type: Indicates whether the number is a mobile or fixed-line number.


Note: The Ported and Roaming information will only appear if your run an MNP request.
