If you’re getting the error “Number not registered in network for SMS”, it usually means that the mobile number isn’t properly recognized by the network for sending or receiving text messages.

Here’s how to troubleshoot it depending on the situation:

 1. Check SIM and Network Registration

  • Ensure SIM is active: Try making a call or using mobile data. If neither works, the SIM might be inactive or not registered with the provider.

  • Restart the phone: This forces the device to re-register with the network.

  • Reinsert SIM card: Power off the phone, remove the SIM, clean the contacts, and reinsert it.

️ 2. Check Message Center Number (SMSC)

The SMS service center number stores and forwards your messages. If it’s wrong, SMS won’t work.

  • Go to Messaging app settings → SMSC or Message center number.

  • Make sure it matches the carrier’s number. (You can look this up on the carrier’s website or call customer service.)

 3. Network Settings and Mode

  • Make sure your phone is not on airplane mode.

  • Switch Network Mode (e.g., from 5G → 4G → 3G) and retry.

  • Go to Settings → Mobile Networks → Network Operators → Search manually and select your carrier.

 4. Try the SIM in Another Phone

This helps determine whether the problem is with your SIM or device:

  • If SMS works in another phone → your phone’s software or settings are at fault.

  • If SMS still fails → the SIM or account needs to be fixed by your provider.

️ 5. Contact Your Carrier

If nothing works:

  • The number might not be properly registered on the Home Location Register (HLR).

  • Ask your provider to re-register your line or refresh your SMS provisioning.
